The Need
Can we design a game for children that merges educational content with popular narratives from children's media? Can we create an engaging game while giving young children agency and free exploration in the game design?
The Big Idea
An educational Ipad/mobile game targets children aged 3-5 years old, combining mathematical learning with the beloved story of "A Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle.

The narrative-based game introduces children to the foundational concepts of percentages - all through free play and the narrative of the caterpillar.

It is designed as an at-home game for children to enjoy while at home, in the car, or waiting in line at shops or restaurants.
It takes the user through the different play modes, including a butterfly room with customized butterflies that build up for the user after each round!

Game Description
Join the beloved Very Hungry Caterpillar in this delightful math adventure, designed for little learners ages 3 to 5.
In this interactive game, the caterpillar is ready for a snack, but he needs your help to figure out how much to eat—and how much is just right! Help the caterpillar eat a variety of foods, understand how much of each food he’s eaten using fun percentage visuals, collect a series of butterflies, and play mini-games and offline games.
From "just a bite" to "all gone," your child will begin to grasp basic percentages as they care for their caterpillar. Ideal for young minds, The Very Hungry Caterpillar: Math Game provides a joyful introduction to math concepts while nurturing your child's love of learning. The more they play, the more they grow—just like the caterpillar!
